La Corroirie, a historic château-monastery in the Loire Valley
La Corroirie was the monastery of the lay brothers of the Charterhouse of Le Liget, established on an earlier feudal fief with seigneurial and judicial rights. The procurator of the Charterhouse lived here, administered the estate and exercised the rights attached to the fief.
This double history can still be read in the buildings. The former Hostellerie now welcomes guests, while the monastic heart of the site is organised around the church and the former buildings of the brothers, protected by fortifications and the keep. The combination of monastic, seigneurial and defensive functions gives full meaning to the term château-monastery.
Today, La Corroirie is an inhabited historic monument. Visitors can stay in the rooms of the former Hostellerie , visit the château-monastery and understand its history , follow Vox Alchimia through the estate or occasionally discover the Élixir4 distillery , housed in the former outbuildings.
There are two main ways to discover La Corroirie: staying for several days or visiting the château-monastery.

The five guest rooms of La Corroirie occupy the former Hostellerie of the château-monastery, between the moat, medieval church, park and Forest of Loches.
The rooms are not standardised. Their size, openings, light and relationship with the landscape depend on the part of the building in which they are located. Some look towards the moat or horizon; others are more closely connected with the church, garden or interior of the château.
Staying several nights makes it possible to discover the place at different hours, have breakfast in the château, walk through the estate and return each evening to the same buildings and landscapes after a day in Loches, Montrésor, Chenonceau or elsewhere in the Loire Valley.

Visiting the château-monastery helps reveal the organisation of this former estate of the Carthusian lay brothers: monastic functions, administration of the fief, defence of the site and successive changes to the buildings.
The site retains the church consecrated in 1206, the moat, prison, drawbridge, fortifications and several old buildings. Their arrangement still allows the different functions of La Corroirie to be understood and explains why the place is at once monastic, seigneurial and fortified.

Élixir4 Distillery and contemporary creation
La Corroirie is not preserved only as an old monument: it remains a place of work and creation. The former outbuildings now house the Élixir4 distillery, while contemporary works take their place in the park and landscape.
The Élixir4 distillery produces botanical spirits on site and works with plants through distillation. Its presence gives a contemporary use to the former outbuildings of the château-monastery.
In the park, Vox Alchimia brings together contemporary works installed in the landscape. The trail creates a relationship between present-day creation, old buildings and the natural spaces of the estate.

Access and location
La Corroirie lies in Touraine, directly on the D760 between Loches and Montrésor, beside the Forest of Loches.
The estate administratively belongs to Chemillé-sur-Indrois, but access is directly from the D760 without going through the centre of the village. For GPS navigation, locate the château-monastery itself rather than the village centre.
By car, allow approximately 5 minutes to reach Montrésor and 12 minutes to reach Loches . ZooParc de Beauval is approximately 25 minutes away, and the Château de Chenonceau approximately 30 minutes. These journey times are indicative and depend on traffic.
This location makes it possible to arrange several days of exploration while keeping the same place to stay and returning to La Corroirie each evening.
Visitors to the monument and guests staying in the rooms use separate entrances. Guests can park in the courtyard during their stay.
